Methanol, as a carrier of hydrogen, has mature technology for producing hydrogen through block based methanol production, and has the conditions to construct a network for hydrogen energy supply and transmission. Overall, it is expected to solve the imbalance in the types, distribution, and consumption of energy resources in China, and improve China's energy security.
Methanol, also known as hydroxymethane, wood alcohol, or wood spirits, is an organic compound with the simplest structure of a saturated monohydric alcohol. Its chemical formula is CH3OH/CH4O. Methanol is produced directly from an industrial process catalyzed by carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen. This project's green methanol is synthesized through biomass gasification, which is a truly green methanol with no carbon footprint. Methanol has a calorific value of approximately 4800 kcal, while diesel has a calorific value of approximately 8500 kcal; Burning 1 ton of ordinary methanol emits 1.35 tons of CO2, green methanol emits 0 carbon emissions, and burning 1 ton of diesel emits 4.33 tons of CO2. For the same ship type and voyage, the fuel consumption of methanol is twice that of diesel, and the carbon emissions of diesel are 3.2 times that of methanol. Therefore, it is imperative to use green methanol with zero carbon emissions as a ship fuel.
